National Register Nominations
The National Register of Historic Places was authorized by the National Historic
Preservation Act of 1966, as amended, to recognize historic properties that
are significant to a community, state, or the nation.

Following are just a few of the reasons why listing in the National Register
contributes to preserving historic properties:

- Recognition at the local, state, and national level
- Eligibility for Federal tax benefits, such as the Rehabilitation Investment
Tax Credits
- Consideration in the planning for Federal or federally assisted projects, such
as the Section 106 program
-  Qualification for assistance for historic preservation grant money (bricks and
mortar projects), when funds are available through the State Historic
Preservation Office

Keystone Preservation Group’s Role in the National Register Process:
As part of their comprehensive preservation services, Keystone Preservation
Group prepares Determinations of Eligibility and National Register Nominations
for all types of historic resources.  Keystone's staff has successfully guided
property owners, developers, and municipalities through the National Register
(NR) process for more than a decade, having completed registration
documents for several types of historic properties in the Mid-Atlantic region,
ranging in size from single residential properties to schools, large industrial
complexes, apartment buildings, and historic districts.

We often coordinate the National Register process as part of larger projects,
most often with Rehabilitation Investment Tax Credit work.

Our role in the National Register process typically includes:

Meet with property owners to review and discuss the National Register process
and requirements.
Evaluate historic significance and physical integrity
Complete a Determination of Eligibility (DOE), if required.
Complete National Register of Historic Places nomination form.
Coordinate and negotiate with State Historic Preservation Office staff
Conduct all documentary and historical research, site visits, mapping, and
photography
Attend State Review Board meeting to present nomination
